Armonia Celeste Explores Love’s Perils for Houston Early Music

Armonia Celeste will perform a program titled “Udite Amanti – Lovers Beware!” on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 as part of Houston Early Music’s Emerging Artists Series. The pre-Valentine’s Day concert  will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church and feature rarely heard music from the Italian Renaissance and early Baroque eras.

Baltimore Consort celebrates holidays with Houston Early Music

“Wassail, Wassail!” program includes traditional carols and dance tunes from the British Isles, France, Spain, Germany and Appalachia

 

HOUSTON, TX – October 18, 2012 – The Baltimore Consort will bring a festive Yuletide program titled “Wassail, Wassail!” to Houston Early Music on Tuesday, December 11. The concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, celebrates the season with old carols and dance tunes from the British Isles, France, Spain, Germany and Appalachia.

“We are truly looking forward to being in Houston again,” said Mary Anne Ballard, who plays viols and rebec with the Consort and is a favorite of Houston Early Music audiences. The group has appeared some half-dozen times on the series, most recently in 2008.

Grammy-nominated ensemble El Mundo will kick off the Houston Early Music season with a program of 17th- and 18th-century Spanish, Italian and Latin American music at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m. Part of the Hispanic Heritage Series, the program is titled “The Kingdoms of Castille” and will feature music from the group’s CD of the same name, nominated for a Grammy Award last year.

Here are some photos taken at our gathering October 9, 2012, The event featured an introduction to the music and mission of Houston Early Music, as well as performances by Richard Savino, Grammy-nominated guitarist/lutenist and director of Ensemble El Mundo, with Adam LaMotte, violinist with the Maggini String Orchestra.  Malachai Bandy, violist da gamba and leader of the Shepherd School Crumhorn Collective, also performed.
