THE QUEEN'S SIX

The Origins of Baroque

Vocal Music

Based at Windsor Castle, The Queen's Six is comprised of Lay Clerks in the St. George's Chapel Choir, which performs at daily services as well as private and state occasions, notably the recent wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. This acclaimed a cappella ensemble makes its Houston Early Music debut with a program charting the progress of European Renaissance music through political and musical upheavals. The first portion of the program showcases sacred and secular works by Italian, Spanish, and Mexican composers, including Palestrina, Victoria, Monteverdi, and Capillas, and the second half is devoted to works of English masters such as Tallis, Byrd, Purcell, and songs by and relating to King Henry VIII.

Pre-concert talk by The Queen's Six artists at 6:45 PM
