ABOUT

About

Houston Early Music begins the 2021-2022 Season with a brand new film production celebrating the Music of Shakespearean England, his plays, and the people who created them titled The Food of Love – Play On!

A perennial Houston audience favorite, The Baltimore Consort, provide the delightful footage from their 2016 performance at the Madison Early Music Festival. AND Main Street Theater provide the actors for this one-of-a-kind collaborative virtual performance.

English Renaissance songs, dances, and fancies are woven together with well-known and beloved passages (along with a few rarely performed scenes) from eight of Shakespeare’s plays, all centering, of course, around the theme of music.

Main Street Theater stalwarts Rutherford Cravens, Joel Sandel, Mai Le, and Dwight Clark join the delightful, whimsical, and brilliant artistry of The Baltimore Consort bringing you a delight for the senses.

HEM Production Manager Judy Frow, and MST’s Director of Digital Production Amelia Rico, artfully meld the components of this beautiful presentation into an enchanting early music evening, delivered directly to you starting August 19, 2021, beginning at 7:30 pm through midnight Sunday, August 22, 2021.

ALSO, be sure to watch the Pre-Concert Lecture by Consort members Mark Cudek and Larry Lipkis, who offer many great detail about the plays, the music, and the people who

created them.
