East meets West in this unique collaboration between Southern Indian Carnatic and Western European Baroque musical traditions. Houston Early Music presents a dynamic partnership with Houston elite Baroque artists and outstanding musicians and dancers of Silambam Houston Classical Indian Arts Center. Funded by a grant from Houston Endowment via EmcArts’ New Pathways Program, this event explores the remarkable differences and similarities between these two musical languages. Expanding on revelations of the early music from worldwide cultures, specially selected melodies and styles will intertwine as the musicians pass the musical torch from East to West with choreography by Silambam’s Executive Artistic Director, Dr. Lavanya Rajagopalan. Silambam’s exceptional dancers will join musicians, interpreting classical Indian dance in new ways.
